About Sherry

It all began.

Hello and welcome! My name is Sherry Walsh (she/her/hers) and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate, working under the supervision of a qualified supervisor. Sherry is an independent contractor with Caring Mind Counseling. She operates her own practice but adheres to the same professional and ethical standards as all Caring Mind providers.

I approach each individual and family with care and compassion, helping them identify and build on their strengths in a supportive, nonjudgmental, and empathic environment. I believe therapy starts “where the client is,” with goals shaped by your needs and input.

I am originally from Eastern North Carolina and moved to the mountains of Western NC in 2017 with my husband and son after falling in love with this community. The mountains continue to inspire me as a safe place to heal, grow, and learn.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my pets and family, traveling, camping, thrifting, reading, and being outdoors.

I hold a Master of Social Work degree from Simmons University with a focus in trauma therapy, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Trauma Practice.

Support for Children & Adolescents
I enjoy working with children, teens, and adolescents, helping them navigate challenges at school, at home, and in relationships. I often use:

  • Play Therapy

  • Creative & Expressive Therapies

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

I also partner with families, offering support in strengthening communication and creating a safe space for growth and resilience.

I have experience working with children on the autism spectrum, supporting both the child and family in understanding needs, fostering strengths, and creating tools for success.

Support for Adults
I also work with individual adults who are seeking support with life transitions, stress, anxiety, trauma, or relationship concerns. My approach often includes:

  • Solution-Focused Therapy

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Strength-Based Approaches

My goal is to provide a space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to move at your own pace.

Specialized Trauma Work
I have experience working with survivors of intimate partner violence as a hospital responder, court advocate, and crisis response hotline worker. I approach trauma survivors with a trauma-focused lens—focusing on the traumatic event and its aftermath with an emphasis on creating a safe and supportive therapeutic environment. My aim is to help reduce the impact of trauma on your mental health and well-being, while promoting resilience and healing.

I have facilitated Seeking Safety groups for women survivors of trauma and groups focused on healing the inner child for women who survived childhood abuse.

Support for Older Adults
I also enjoy working with older adults as they navigate life transitions, changes in family dynamics, grief, health concerns, and identity shifts that can arise later in life. My approach is to honor each individual’s unique history while providing a supportive space to process challenges and cultivate resilience.

Support for LGBTQIA+ & Trans Clients
I have experience working with individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+ and trans. In addition to my clinical background, I also bring personal experience with the trans community, which helps me approach this work with greater understanding, empathy, and authenticity.
